Line Technician
Job Summary
The Line Technician performs diverse work erecting, repairing, and operating distribution and transmission facilities. Performs various work on energized lines, structures, and equipment involving electricity distribution. Responsible for and must be knowledgeable of all voltage classes.
Essential Duties
- Maintain strict compliance with all safety regulations and work conditions.
- Establish and maintain reliable electric systems and distribution voltages under direct supervision.
- Must be proficient at operating all types of equipment used in line work.
- Ability to make some decisions in the application of standards.
- Must be able to provide instruction to ground workers or others of a lower classification.
- Able to develop limited knowledge of substation operations.
- Must have knowledge of circuit feeds and opening points.
- Must be available for rotating on-call duty and power restoration.
- Must be able to perform any duties associated with the previous classification.
- Must follow all PEMC safety regulations.
- Must perform construction and maintenance activities on overhead and underground construction lines under direct supervision.
- May occasionally be asked to lead the crew in absence of the crew leader.
- Oversee the responsible and safe operation and maintenance of all assigned tools and equipment used by the assigned crew(s)
- Oversee and direct power restoration, occasionally in inclement and extreme weather conditions
- Participate in Operations' on-call rotation as scheduled and in emergency power restoration events as needed
- Review and complete (as needed): staking sheets, inspection reports, vehicle inspections, accident, near miss, injury, and incident reports
- Additional duties as needed and assigned.
Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent education required
- Completion of Electrical Line Worker Training Program
- Current and valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with DOT Medical Card. Required to maintain a clean driving record.
- BLS/CPR certification required
- 5-7 years of lineman experience required
- Experience with operating and maintaining hand tools and heavy equipment required
- Experience with construction of overhead and underground electrical transmission lines required
- Must have the ability to complete Pole Top & Bucket Rescue emergencies in 5 minutes or less
- Substation repair and maintenance knowledge and skills are required
- Must have the ability to multi-task, prioritize, perform basic math, use critical thinking skills, and have excellent written and verbal communication techniques
- Must be able to lift, push and pull 60+ lbs., and withstand working outdoors in a variety (occasionally hazardous and inclement) weather conditions
- Must reside within a 30-minute commute of PEMC's Roxboro office (1125 Oxford Road)
